The East of Asturias was an area which gave rise to a vast wave of emigration at the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth. The majority of Llaniscans went to Cuba and then later Mexico and Argentina.
The Indiano house usually dominated its surroundings in the countryside because of its size and its design. The Indianos introduced a cosmopolitan style of architecture.
The Foundation: The Indiano Archive, the Museum of Emigration. This is found in the village of Columbres in the borougn of Ribadedeva. This house is known as the Quinta Guadalupe which belonged to Iñigo Noriega Laso, an emigrant to Mexico.
